What is JAS?

JAS clears the clutter, handles the hard BI tasks, and spotlights what matters most.

JAS is the culmination of our multi-year innovation journey. It is an integrated Generative AI assistant designed to transform how you interact with business intelligence (BI). JAS makes analytics intuitive, accessible, and automated, helping you make smarter decisions faster.

Whether you are an experienced data professional or a business user with little technical background, JAS makes BI easy and accessible. It automates complex tasks — such as generating SQL queries and explaining intricate dashboard insights — ensuring you can interact with data effortlessly without needing specialized expertise or relying on analysts.

JAS is more than just a feature; it is your personal BI expert embedded directly within the TURBOARD platform, making BI accessible to everyone. It is a powerful tool designed to democratize data analytics, enabling you to automate complex tasks and focus on what truly matters: insightful decisions.

JAS is delivered through two complementary modules: the JAS Pane — the conversational assistant described on this page — and JASlet, a dashboard widget that generates automatic insights for a specific entity.

Natural Language to SQL: instantly generate and validate complex SQL queries for creating views and calculated measures.

Effortless Editing with Simple Commands: refine your visuals on the fly. Simply ask JAS to “Change to a bar chart and sort,” and the updates are applied instantly.

The JAS Pane

The JAS Pane is a slide-in assistant panel you can open from anywhere in the application to chat freely with JAS. While the current page stays behind it, the pane slides in over the top so you can talk to JAS without losing your place.

Opening & Closing the Pane

  • Click the JAS button on the screen to open or close the pane.
  • On mobile devices the JAS button is hidden; the corresponding assistant modal is used instead.
  • While the pane is open, a loading indicator appears at the top whenever a response is still being generated.

Persona (Personality) Selection

A persona selector is located in the top-right corner of the pane:

  • By default, the system-defined default persona is selected.
  • Use the icon to choose a different persona and change JAS's response style (tone, focus area, instructions).
  • If only one persona is defined, the selector is not shown and the persona name appears as fixed text.
  • If no persona is defined at all, you will see a warning icon (“Please add a persona”).

Note

Personas are defined by administrators from the admin panel (Assistant / Persona settings).

Chat History Panel

Next to the JAS Pane — or full-screen on mobile — there is a history panel:

New Chat Start a conversation from scratch with the “New Chat” button at the top
Search Search past conversations by title
Grouping by date Conversations are grouped by their last-updated date (today, yesterday, this week, etc.)
Pinning Pinned conversations stand out in the list with a pin icon
Deleting Each conversation can be deleted from its “⋮” menu after a confirmation prompt
Infinite scroll More conversations load automatically as you scroll down the list

When you click a conversation, its entire message history loads inside the JAS Pane.

Chatting with JAS

  • Type your question into the text box at the bottom and send it, or ask by voice using the microphone icon.
  • When you send your first message, the entities currently selected on screen (dashboard, dashlet, view, etc.) are automatically added to the message as context (attachments).
  • Responses are rendered in Markdown (headings, lists, code blocks, etc.).
  • Editing a message: you can edit a message you sent and resend it; in that case the history after that message is removed and the response is regenerated.
  • Retrying a failed response: if a response ends in an error, a retry option is offered to resend the relevant message.
  • Stopping a response: you can cancel a response while it is being generated.
  • Suggested questions: beneath some of its responses, JAS may suggest related follow-up questions; click one to continue the conversation from where you left off.

Adding Context (Attachments)

You can attach specific entities to the chat as context:

  • Entities such as Dashboard, Dashlet, View, Layout, and Showcase can be selected and added to the chat.
  • Added context appears as small cards above the message; you can remove any context you no longer want from the list.

Actions JAS Can Perform

JAS does not only answer questions — it can also take direct action through the chat. The suggested action cards inside a response may include:

  • Create Dashlet — create a dashlet suggested by JAS with a single click.
  • Edit Dashlet — apply the changes JAS suggests to an existing dashlet; save them directly if you are on the current page, or be redirected to the relevant page to apply the change there.
  • Clone Filter — apply the filters JAS derives to the current dashboard.
  • Create Dashboard — create the suggested new dashboard.
  • Continue Conversation — resume the conversation from where you left off, with a dashboard as context.

Each action card shows a loading state until the operation completes, then turns into a preview of the related entity.
