JASlet
JASlet
JASlet is a special widget type added to a dashboard that automatically generates insights about a specific dashlet, dashboard, or view, and/or lets you ask questions about that entity. It is one of the two modules that deliver JAS on the platform — the companion to the conversational JAS Pane — and it brings JAS's generative analysis directly into your dashboards.
Adding a New JASlet
In dashboard edit mode, select “Create New JASlet” from the widget list in the left panel.
Choose the type of entity to analyze:
- Dashlet — a dashlet on the current dashboard or another dashlet
- Dashboard — the entire current dashboard or another dashboard
- View — a data view
Select the specific entity from the list or by using the search box (entities on the current dashboard are highlighted under the “From Current Dashboard” heading).
Add the widget, leaving the Analysis and Questions options turned on or off as needed.
The JASlet Widget's Appearance
An added JASlet widget consists of two core sections:
- Analysis (Insight) section: the written analysis/commentary JAS generates about the connected dashlet/dashboard/view, displayed in Markdown format.
- Questions (Chat) section: a mini chat area where you can ask questions specific to that entity directly through the widget; here too you can ask by voice using the microphone.
When filters change (i.e., when a dashboard filter is applied), the JASlet automatically recalculates using the current data of its connected entity.
JASlet Widget Settings
While the widget is selected, the following settings are available from the right panel:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Enable JAS Analysis (use_insights) |
Determines whether the widget produces an automatic written analysis |
Enable Questions (use_questions) |
Determines whether the mini chat inside the widget is available |
Agent Mode (use_agent_mode) |
When enabled, JAS can plan multi-step analyses, write custom queries, and automatically cross-reference data for deeper insights |
Insights Token Limit (max_insights_token) |
Sets the maximum length (in tokens) of the analysis text to be generated |
| JASlet Persona | Allows a different persona to be assigned specifically to this widget; if none is assigned, the system default persona is used |
Quick Actions on the Widget (Ribbon)
The following actions can be performed from the JASlet widget's ribbon menu:
- Configure — opens the settings panel above (Analysis / Questions / Agent Mode / Token / Persona).
- Set Styling — edits the widget's visual style (background color, etc.).
- Select Entity — opens the left panel to change the dashlet/dashboard/view the widget is connected to.
- Open Entity — opens the connected entity (dashlet editing, dashboard view, view editing) in a new tab.
- Delete — removes the widget from the dashboard after confirmation.
How Does JASlet Work? (Behind the Scenes)
- Before generating an analysis, if a cached result already exists for the same filter/persona/token combination, that result is shown; otherwise a new analysis is generated and written to the cache.
- Depending on the dashlet type (chart, pivot/grid, map, etc.), different analysis services are used; for some dashlet types (Info Cell, GIS Map), automatic analysis is not yet supported and only question-and-answer is available.
- When a question is asked through the chat, the context of the relevant entity is fetched once first, and the same context is reused for subsequent questions.
